TRANS TASMAN TOUR CLASSIFICATION - FAQ'S
(Note: This information is also available for download by clicking here - Word.doc 72.3kb)

Q. I want to present a foal for approval, what do I need to do?
A. 1. You need to let your Area/state Co-ordinator know that you wish to be present (see below)
2. Fill out the Trans Tasman Classification Tour application form - click here to download now (Word.doc 114kb)
3. Fill in an Application for Registration including the section on foal sighting and attach the relevant Service/Serving Certificate/s.
4. Send a copies of both, with payment to your Co-ordinator. (See addresses below.)
5. If your foal is out of a TB, Anglo or WB mare, with appropriate papers [registration with another approved Horse Association] your foal will be eligible for the Association's Studbooks, either Holsteiner, Holsteiner Warmblood or Warmblood. The mare will also need to be registered and classified as a Foundation Mare.
6. If your foal is out of a mare which does not have a proveable pedigree and your foal is a filly, then it may be registered as a Foundation Mare Derivative. This does not involve an Association brand. A filly in this category can then breed a Studbook foal when mated to a registered Stallion.

Q. Can derivative Foundation Mares foals still be assessed?
A. Yes.

Q. What happens on the day, how do I present my foal?
A. The Classification/approval process is a little like doing a led class at a show. You should present all horses in a clean and tidy fashion, with suitable headgear. Plaiting is not compulsory, but can add to the overall picture.

FOALS
Foals are easiest to present when they are on their dams. Classifiers will look at the foal standing, walk, trot and canter. They will sight the foal on the dam for you, and sign/fill in the appropriate section on the Application for Registration.. They are looked at in two sections. 1. Type/conformation 2. Movement. They will receive a score out of 10 for each section.
Foal Scoring: 10 - 12 is a Pass; 13 - 14 is Merit, and 15 or more is Premium rating.

YEARLINGS AND OLDER HORSES.
These are led in hand on a 20-30 diameter triangle at walk and trot and then be let go free in an enclosed areas to see the horse's movement unencumbered. Yearlings and 2yo's will be assessed in the same manner as foals.

BRANDING / MICROCHIPPING
Foals must have a stud brand and numerical brands before being presented for approval or association will not be done. All horses, including foals become eligible for the Association Brand upon completion of the Approval/Classification. All horses should have a Stud brand on the near shoulder, AND the Foal Number and year of birth numeral on the off side.
If micro-chipping, a final verification from the vet who inserted the chip must be presented before branding. If you wish to have your foal sedated for an association brand, the owner owner must arrange to have their vet present on the day. Handling and haltering of foals is advised to make classification and branding easier.

SCORES
You will be told your horse's scores on the day and may discuss your foal with the Classifiers. The final paperwork will be forwarded to you shortly after the end of the Tour.
