BREED
STANDARDS
General
Impression:
A
large framed well balanced horse, displaying a bold and noble
bearing. The mares should show refinement and femininity:
the stallions boldness and masculinity, at the same time displaying
an impeccable temperament. The general impression should be
one of refinement, balance, agility, suppleness and alert
intelligence.
Size: A Holsteiner mare
must measure a minimum of 15.2 hh and a Holsteiner Stallion
16 hh to be eligible for registration. The measurement is
taken from the highest point of the wither.
Teeth: Excessive overshot
or undershot, or parrot-mouth will cause disqualification.
Eyes: Large, alert, kind
and expressive, well set to the side of the head.
Throat Latch : Clean and
well defined, allowing ample room for flexion at the poll.
Neck: Sufficiently high
set, blending smoothly and cleanly into the withers with good
length of rein.
Shoulder: Long sloping
and well angulated allowing for a free swinging stride and
alert head/neck carriage; well muscled forearm.
Frame: Large framed, deep
bodied, well muscled, long boned, balanced and well proportioned.
Wither should be well defined with a short back and strong
flat connection into the loins. The horse should appear to
be short along the top line with a lengthy underline.
Hind Quarters: Long well
muscled hip, thigh and gaskin, the highest point of the croup
to be the same height from the ground as the withers; tail
set neither excessively high or low, but smoothly rounding
off the rump.
Legs: Large boned, with
the length in proportion to the body, set straight and parallel
when viewed from the front and back; straight, true and squarely
set when viewed from the side with hooves pointing directly
ahead; strong cannons; pasterns sloping approximately 45 degrees
and blending smoothly with no change of angle from
hooves to the ground.
Hooves: To be strong,
of a rounded and compact shape and sufficiently large enough
for the size of the horse. the heels should be wide without
being flat.
Gait: Smooth and fluid
with large mechanics, good suspension and naturally free moving.
The horse should display suppleness with rounded action and
a strong push from the hocks.
Colour: Solid colours
only are acceptable. Bay, black , brown, chestnut or grey.
Temperament: Good temperament
is of the utmost importance, curious, alert, intelligent and
friendly.

HOLSTEINER
STUD BOOK
For horses whose sire is a Classifed Holsteiner stallion and
whose dam is foundation registered TB, Anglo or Holsteiner
mare.
HOLSTEINER / WARMBLOOD
For horses who have one parent at least 50% Classified Holsteiner
bloodline and the other parent of AWHA or other approved registration.
WARMBLOOD
For horses of straight WB breeding from an Assn recognised
by this Association.
FOUNDATION MARES
for all TB, Anglo, Arab/Warmblood and some WB mares.
HOLSTEINER DERIVATIVES
For horses of 12.5% and above of Holsteiner breeding that
is not recognised in the main books of this Assn. Mares of
this book are eligible to be dual registered as Foundation
Mares.
REGISTRATION
Foal
Recording
For a foal to be recognised by the Association their Holsteiner
Sire must have a current breeding permit with the Association
and the Dam if Thoroughbred ,Anglo or Warmblood must be registered
as a Foundation mare. If your foal has one Holsteiner parent
and one Warmblood parent then the Warmblood parent must be
either registered with the AWHA or an approved association.
These foals are eligible for the Holsteiner/Warmblood stud
book. If you are wishing to breed from your foal recorded
Holsteiner mare please make sure she is classified, and receives
her adult registration papers first. To foal record your foal
you need to fill in a Registration Application form and attach
the appropriate Service Certificate and return it along with
the appropriate fee to the Registrar for processing. See Contact

Transfer of Ownership
If you sell or have just bought a horse that has a Birth Certificate
or other registration papers with this Association, then you
need to fill in a Membership Application and Transfer form
and return both along with your horses papers to the Registrar
for processing. Please be aware that if you buy a young horse
or one that has not been classified yet, that Classification
is a requirement of all fillies/mares that are Birth Recorded
with the Association. These are available by contacting the

Registration
The fee for Registration is $50.00. This fee reduces the more
you register. Please include the Appropriate Serviced Certificate
with this application. A stud prefix must be shown and also
a stud brand. Stud prefix is not to exceed 16 characters and
brands are to be kept as simple as possible, alphabetic and
numerals only for preference. Please contact the Registrar
